What are Injectable Fillers?
Collagen is a natural part of our skin's support structure. However, as we age, collagen begins to thin and the effects of aging, such as wrinkles and skin laxity, begin to show on the face. Injectable fillers are used to replenish the skin's collagen layer, causing the wrinkles and lines to smooth out immediately. Patients may also consider injectable fillers to add fullness to the lips and cheeks. At The Plastic Surgery Center of Nashville, we offer a full range of fillers, including BOTOX® Cosmetic.
Cosmetic Collagen Fillers
There are several different types of fillers that are used at The Plastic Surgery Center of Nashville. The FDA-approved cosmetic collagen fillers that we use are Zyplast®, Zyderm®, Cosmoplast®, and Cosmoderm®. These cosmetic collagen fillers can last up to six months. The treatments take approximately 30 minutes to one hour and recovery time is short.
Zyderm® and Zyplast®
Zyderm® and Zyplast® are derived from cow protein and may be used to treat creases between the eyebrows, lines between the nose and lips (smile lines), lines around the lips, and the lines at the sides of the mouth (marionette lines). Because Zyderm® and Zyplast® are derived from cows, a skin test is required prior to injecting.
Cosmoderm® and Cosmoplast®
Cosmoderm® and Cosmoplast® are derived from natural human collagen, so a skin test prior to injection is not necessary. Cosmoderm® and Cosmoplast® are also used for frown lines between the eyebrows, vertical lip lines, acne scars, smile lines, lip borders, and marionette lines.
Hyaluronic Acid Fillers
Hylaform®, Captique®, and Restylane® are also used in our clinic. These products are made from hyaluronic acid, a natural sugar found in all living cells that attracts and binds water, hydrating your skin and giving it volume.
Hylaform®
Hylaform® is made of hyaluronic acid derived from an avian (bird) source. A skin test is not required with this product. Hylaform® is often used in the lips and can treat smile lines and marionette lines as well.
Captique®
Captique® is a non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid dermal filler that is also used for frown lines, smile lines, vertical lip lines, and marionette lines.
The duration of the injections vary from patient to patient and from filler to filler, ranging from three to nine months.
Restylane®
Restylane® is made of non-animal-based hyaluronic acid. A skin test is not required with this product. Restylane® is often used in the lips and to treat smile lines and marionette lines. This natural product produces long-lasting skin enhancement. The most common side effects from Restylane® are temporary redness and swelling to the injection site.

Thank You for choosing the Plastic Surgery Center of Nashville for your Dermal Filler needs. We appreciate your confidence. We will do our best to accomplish your cosmetic needs and accommodate your busy schedule.
Our dermal fillers are priced per syringe. This price includes your first treatment plus one additional treatment if any filler remains following the initial injection. There will be a $50 charge for additional injections with any remaining filler.
This policy becomes effective January 1, 2006.
