Hyperhidrosis Treatment with MiraDry
Patients who deal with hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating) often find that topical products and antiperspirants don’t work effectively. MiraDry is a treatment that dramatically reduces the sweating and odor associated with hyperhidrosis. This is a non-invasive procedure that delivers precise and controlled energy to the underarm sweat glands and destroys them.
The results are long-lasting because sweat glands do not regenerate. You should notice immediate improvement with little to no downtime afterward.
What is MiraDry?
MiraDry is an FDA-approved, revolutionary hyperhidrosis treatment that reduces excessive underarm sweating and odor. This safe, non-invasive procedure helps eliminate the embarrassment of underarm sweat marks on clothing, which are also hard to get out in the laundry. MiraDry effectively destroys sweat glands by utilizing a unique electromagnetic frequency to eliminate the problem right at the source.
Although outcomes may vary from patient to patient, here are some common results of the MiraDry hyperhidrosis treatment:
- Up to an 80% reduction of underarm sweat and odor
- Results last for several years after one or two treatment sessions
- Treatment is quick and convenient, with little to no downtime
- Treatment has little to no discomfort
The MiraDry Hyperhidrosis Treatment Session
The hyperhidrosis treatment session lasts about an hour. We begin by applying a numbing cream for comfort (ask us about our ProNox offering in addition to numbing cream). Next, we pass a specialized attachment that sends electromagnetic energy to the treatment site where the sweat glands reside. This energy destroys the underlying sweat glands, greatly decreasing the body’s ability to produce underarm sweat. MiraDry treatments are almost painless, surprisingly quick, and offer immediate improvement after each session.
Stop shaving your underarms 5-6 days before a MiraDry treatment session. We will also advise you to prepare ice packs (freezing four round plastic water bottles will work) before treatment. Apply no antiperspirants or deodorant on the day of your treatment.
Most patients return to their daily activities after the hyperhidrosis treatment session. To reduce discomfort and swelling, apply an ice pack at the treatment site for the first 24 to 48 hours after treatment. This is where the frozen water bottles can come in handy. The roundness of the bottles will work far better than traditional ice packs, encompassing the entire underarm.
Avoid strenuous activity for one week to ensure a quick and effective recovery. You should experience some soreness and swelling, possible bruising, for a few days, but you can manage these effects with over-the-counter anti-inflammatories and pain medication like Ibuprofen.
We will give you detailed aftercare instructions before treatment to ensure you will meet your goals for MiraDry and improve your lifestyle.
General health conditions and personal medical history will determine if this hyperhidrosis treatment is right for you. You can arrange for a consultation with Plastic Surgery Center of Nashville if you:
- Experience excessive underarm sweating due to hyperhidrosis
- Exhibit persistent underarm odor despite using deodorant
- Tired of the hassle of various prescription antiperspirants or injections like Botox® that do not provide a long-term solution
- Want to eliminate the embarrassment and expense of sweat stains on clothing
- Want to eliminate the need for antiperspirant and deodorant products
MiraDry can also cause a reduction of hair in the treatment site. This effect is considered a benefit for some patients, but this result should be a consideration before deciding to undergo a treatment session.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does MiraDry Hurt?
Most patients feel little to no pain because we perform the procedure with a potent anesthetic cream. We can also provide ProNox as an add-on to your treatment to provide further relaxation. You may experience some light pulling or pressure. There may be an occasional heat sensation which will be brief and tolerable. Pain discomfort on a scale of ten is about a two.
How is MiraDry Different from Other Hyperhidrosis Treatments?
Other hyperhidrosis treatment options include Botox® and antiperspirants, but they do not provide long-term results. There are also surgical options which come with risks. MiraDry is the only non-invasive option that provides long-lasting results.
