Say ‘I do’ to These Pampering Procedures Before Your Big Day

If there’s one thing every bride wants to have on her big day, it’s a beautiful, refreshed-looking bridal “glow.” Unfortunately, if you’re even remotely involved in planning your own wedding, you know the reality that most brides actually face: Late nights, copious amounts of stress, and an increase in social engagements (typically involving the consumption of less than healthy foods and drinks). Naturally, all of the aforementioned doesn’t usually lead to looking dewy and fresh-faced. Instead, you’re probably desperately seeking a detox for your dermis and a few quick ways to slim down and shape up.

The good news? If the paragraph above describes you, we can assure you that there’s no need to panic. A wide range of nonsurgical (read: no recovery time, so you can get back to planning your wedding right away) procedures are available to help you achieve the best face and body of your life in time for your big day. The following procedures, will guarantee you the kind of glowing face and knockout body every bride-to-be dreams of:

Botox/Dysport

Botox and Dysport are two of the nation’s leading neuromodulators. While that term sounds like something out of science fiction, their purpose is actually fairly simple and straightforward: They cause the muscles in common “problem areas” (like the forehead, brows, and around the eyes) to temporarily relax. This reduces the number of dynamic wrinkles (wrinkles caused by the normal expansion and contraction of the facial muscles) that appear when we make facial expressions. In other words, these compounds will allow you to smile brightly on your big day without worrying about crows’ feet or forehead lines showing up in your wedding pictures.

Even if you’re still fairly young and don’t have obvious wrinkles, neuromodulators can help you look better in photos. Botox and Dysport can ease away natural creases in your face (some people have deeper than average facial lines and creases owing to genetic factors), allowing you to apply makeup more evenly. You’ll also present with smoother, more even-looking skin in pictures.

Botox and Dysport only last about three to four months, so there’s essentially no harm in trying them to see if they make a difference in how you look. While you may have heard myths about Botox, most of them are just that—myths. In reality, Botox (and Dysport) can’t permanently “freeze” the face, and adverse reactions to these compounds are extremely rare. You’re more likely to have a bad reaction to shellfish or tree nuts than to Botox!

HydraFacials

The HydraFacial is a unique three step system that starts with a gentle but effective exfoliation process.  A serum is applied to the skin via a special applicator tool, then the upper layer of the dermis is carefully stripped away. Like a chemical peel, this process removes excess oil, debris, and dead skin cells, while also stimulating collagen production. Unlike a chemical peel, however, the HydraFacial system does not cause lasting redness or skin flaking. After HydraFacial exfoliation, your skin will look like new again within just one to three days. (In other words, this is the perfect last-minute skin rejuvenation treatment for busy brides to be.) Better still, you’ll be supplied with professional grade nourishing moisturizers that profoundly hydrate and restore the skin. Finally, you’ll be given special serums that are rich in protective antioxidants and peptides. These (along with a high SPF sunscreen) will help your skin fend off sun damage—a particularly important consideration if you’re going somewhere tropical for your honeymoon.

In addition to giving you healthy, glowing skin, the HydraFacial system can reduce the appearance of numerous superficial imperfections. Because it removes the surface layer of the skin and forces it to regenerate, it can “heal away” a range of different skin blemishes. Fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, acne scars, sun spots, and areas of uneven pigmentation can all be treated with the HydraFacial system.

Microneedling Treatments

Microneedling is the perfect complement to surface-level skin rejuvenation treatments like the HydraFacial system. During microneedling, numerous extremely thin needles are applied to the skin via a special applicator. Like acupuncture, this process is completely painless; the patient will usually only experience sensations of mild tingling or warmth. At the same time, however, it’s able to penetrate deep into the second layer of the dermis (unlike most topical skin rejuvenation treatments). As a result, it can stimulate collagen growth within the skin’s underlying supportive tissues. This causes the skin to become firmer and tighter than it would after skin resurfacing treatments alone.

Because the needles used during microneedling are so fine, you won’t have to take any time away from your usual activities to heal after this procedure. Your skin will take on a rosy glow for a day or two, then return to its normal hue. Meanwhile, your body will get to work generating a surge of fresh collagen that will revitalize the appearance of your skin over the following weeks.

While microneedling is useful for people of all ages, it boasts significant anti-aging potential. Not only does it reverse the early signs of sagging skin (such as slight jowls and hollows under the cheeks), microneedling has shown promise as a way to treat and prevent wrinkles and fine lines. According to Reader’s Digest Magazine, “Some doctors would even go so far as to say that the procedure is the most powerful way to stop aging in its tracks and prevent new fine lines and wrinkles from forming. With its ability to trigger the generation of new skin cells, just a few sessions of microneedling will noticeably reduce fine lines, crow’s feet, and deep wrinkles on the forehead.”

CoolSculpting

No guide to wedding day beauty would be complete without a section on CoolSculpting. Since being approved by the FDA in 2010, CoolSculpting has skyrocketed to fame as one of the simplest and safest ways of getting rid of excess fat. CoolSculpting uses a process known as cryolipolysis to literally “freeze away” about 24% of the fat cells in treated areas. This is accomplished through the use of a special applicator that keeps the patient’s skin comfortably warm while administering extreme cold energy to subcutaneous fat cells. The cold damages the fat cells, rendering them nonviable and forcing the body to excrete them via the liver and lymphatic system. This process is completely safe, requires no post-procedure downtime, and it’s usually painless, too. (About 10% of CoolSculpting patients experience mild pain, tingling or numbness sensations, and swelling after treatment, but this can usually be managed with over the counter pain relievers. These symptoms typically subside within a few weeks.)

While CoolSculpting was initially used primarily to get rid of unwanted abdominal fat, today it’s been approved for use virtually anywhere on the body. You can CoolSculpt your arms, back, thighs, flanks, and even the area under your chin. In summation, if you want to look stunning in your wedding dress (and photos!) but don’t have time to hit the gym for hours every day before your wedding, then CoolSculpting is probably just what you’re looking for. Unlike crash diets or punishing exercise regimes, having CoolSculpting won’t deprive you of the energy you desperately need to manage all of your wedding-related commitments. It will just help you snap into shape, fast—the results of CoolSculpting become apparent after just a few weeks, with peak fat loss reached about two months after treatment.

Geneveve Treatments

Most brides look forward to their honeymoon as much as their wedding, and for good reason—the excitement of being newly married and weeks of vacation time provide the perfect conditions for intimacy. The only question is, will you be ready for it? You wouldn’t run a marathon without training, and the same rule should hold true for your “lady parts.” Getting your vaginal tissue into top shape before your wedding can go a long way toward helping you get the most out of your honeymoon. This is especially true today, when more women are getting married in their 30s, 40s, and beyond, or getting married after they have had children.

The way childbirth affects the vagina is fairly obvious: Babies aren’t exactly small, so childbirth places significant stress on our vaginal tissues. While some women experience complete healing after having an infant, most don’t; their vaginas remain looser and less sensitive than they were before pregnancy, regardless of how young they were when they gave birth. This is why women of all ages need to wear a larger size of tampon or menstrual cup after giving birth—anything less could result in some very embarrassing moments.

What is much less well-known, however, is the fact that even child-free women tend to experience vaginal looseness as they get older. The gradual loss of collagen that we experience after about age 30 affects a lot more than just our faces, as it turns out. Our vaginal tissues also succumb to a state of greater laxity, especially after menopause, when declining estrogen levels greatly speed up collagen loss.

Regardless of what causes vaginal looseness, it tends to take a toll on one’s sex life. Vaginal looseness leads to a lack of sensitivity within the vagina that can make it more difficult to reach a climax. Some women also experience issues like vaginal dryness, pain during sex, and even urinary incontinence as a result of having poor vaginal tone. Fortunately, a revolutionary new nonsurgical treatment called Geneveve can fix all of this.

Geneveve uses monopolar radiofrequency technology (a form of radio wave emission) to gently and painlessly stimulate collagen regrowth within the structural tissues that support the vagina. This causes the vagina to gradually become tighter, more supple, and better hydrated, so that sensation is greatly increased. In other words, this procedure all but guarantees you’ll have a memorable honeymoon—and it can potentially address a few uncomfortable medical issues at the same time.
