The team at Plastic Surgery Center of Nashville is happy to announce the addition of SkinPen microneedling to our suite of aesthetic procedures! Treatment promotes your skin’s natural healing by increasing the production of elastin and collagen. The normal healing response begins the moment this advanced microneedle begins treatment on your skin.
Microneedling is an advanced technology that treats stretch marks, surgical scarring, wrinkles and fine lines, and tightens and firms up the skin. Downtime is minimal, and the procedure is done conveniently and comfortably at our facility in Nashville.
The SkinPen Treatment
Microneedling is the next generation of treatment for effective and safe facial skin rejuvenation. SkinPen is an electronic pen-like device with fourteen fine needles located at the tip. With a continuous back and forth movement, the tip produces microscopic vertical punctures in the skin at the treatment area.
These vertical holes heal with generating columns of collagen which form a scaffolding effect of tightening the skin. The treatment also shrinks enlarged pores and diminishes wrinkles and fine lines. But that’s not all – dark pigment which causes uneven skin tone will be reduced as well. You will be left with a smoother, brighter, and tighter skin presence for enhanced beauty.
SkinPen by Bellus Medical is the only microneedling device in the world cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, clinically proven to safely and effectively treat facial acne scars for ages 22 and up.
The disposable, sterile needle tips used during treatment are adjustable to areas of the face which require different penetration levels for optimal results. The vibrating handpiece stimulates collagen regeneration, allowing your body to start healing immediately after the treatment is complete. Visible results last up to four weeks.
SkinPen out-performs traditional dermal roller devices in patient experience and results. The precision of the device reduces the effect of the treatment areas adjacent to the treated tissue. Difficult areas like the nose and the upper lip were harder to treat with the traditional dermal roller, but not so with the SkinPen. These areas are now a breeze to treat with the narrower handpiece used in this procedure.
Post Procedure Instructions
We will apply a topical cream immediately after your procedure is complete. We will also recommend other products to help you during recovery. The day after treatment, you can wash your face with a gentle cleanser and tepid water. You will also be instructed to wear a medical grade sunscreen (SPF 30 or more).
Avoid products that contain benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid as these will irritate your skin. Clean your face with a gentle cleanser each evening followed by an application of a topical Bio cream. Mineral powder makeup can be applied the next day.
Frequently Asked Questions
What results can I expect?
Fine lines and wrinkles are reduced, skin regains elasticity and becomes firmer, circulation is stimulated and pore size is reduced. Your overall skin appearance and condition will improve.
What are typical areas for treatment?
The neck and chest, around the mouth, around the eyes, cheeks, and forehead are treated most often for aesthetic results. But any area can be treated for problems with surgical scarring and scar reduction.
How long is the recovery?
Recovery time depends on how severe the skin damage was and how deep the treatment is. Mild redness will follow the procedure akin to a mild sunburn. This redness can last up to four days, but some patients see redness completely gone after 24 hours.
When will I see my results?
Some patients notice healthier skin appearance immediately. However, collagen remodeling takes time, so immediate results are not guaranteed. We recommend a series of four to six sessions with optimal results realized within six months.
Who is a good candidate for SkinPen?
All skin types are suitable for treatment. Patients who suffer from wrinkles and fine lines, stretch marks, and acne scars are ideal candidates.
Does a doctor perform SkinPen or an aesthetician?
Our aesthetician is highly qualified to perform the procedure. She has been trained and certified in administering this treatment and works under the supervision of our plastic surgeons.
Does SkinPen hurt?
A numbing cream is prescribed to all our patients with specific instruction on how to apply it before the procedure.
How many treatments do I need?
Some sessions vary but at least four treatments scheduled a month apart are recommended.
Is SkinPen available all the time?
You must schedule an appointment, and we will work with you to find the most convenient time for the procedure
Will treatment work on people with a darker skin tone?
Yes, it works on all skin tones.
