Mommy Makeover Series: Preparing for Your Consultation

Having a mommy makeover can be life-changing, but it’s no minor undertaking. Mommy makeovers usually involve several different procedures, some of which are considered major surgery, such as an abdominoplasty. You will therefore have to prepare thoroughly before booking a consultation; consult the steps below for guidance:

4 Steps To Take Before Booking a Mommy Makeover Consultation

  1. Give your body some time to heal from childbirth. Carrying and giving birth to a child depletes your body’s resources and does some degree of damage to your muscles and abdominal tissue. As such, before going under the knife, you’ll need to rest and recover. Most plastic surgeons require mommy makeover patients to wait at least six months before having any surgical procedures.

  1. Reach your goal weight. While abdominoplasty (tummy tuck surgery) and even liposuction are standard parts of a mommy makeover, neither of these procedures are intended to be weight loss surgeries. Indeed, abdominoplasty will only be effective if you are within 30 pounds of your ideal weight; if you are not, subsequent weight loss will result in more loose skin. You must therefore lose most of your “baby weight” before booking a mommy makeover consultation.

  1. Stop smoking (if you smoke) and adopt a healthy lifestyle. To make sure you have the quickest and safest recovery possible, you’ll need to support your body by making healthy changes. In addition to losing any excess weight you have, you should avoid smoking and eat a nutritious diet. Smoking constricts blood vessels, thereby diminishing nutrients to your tissues, and eating well will fortify your body for your recovery period. Finally, don’t forget to have a complete medical checkup in order to rule out any health conditions that might interfere with your mommy makeover.

  1. Prepare for your recovery. If you opt for an abdominoplasty, you can expect to dedicate between two-three months to resting. While not all of this will take the form of bed rest, you won’t be able to lift anything heavier than 25 pounds for the duration of this period. You will also need to avoid vigorous physical activity. Naturally, then, you will have to recruit help with the housework and childcare before having a mommy makeover. You should also prepare a “rest area” for yourself (with everything you’ll need within easy reach) and stock up on your prescriptions ahead of time.
