What to Expect at Every Stage of Your Labiaplasty

A labiaplasty is an excellent option for changing the shape and appearance of your vulva. It can be a great way to reduce symptoms like discomfort or dryness after childbirth. It’s common to hear much misleading information about labiaplasty. So, it’s helpful to know what to expect before, during, and after the procedure. As you schedule your consultation with the Plastic Surgery Center of Nashville, here are some things you should know about the process.

Your Consultation

During this first appointment, you’ll discuss your labiaplasty goals and why you’re interested in the procedure. This can help your surgeon determine if the operation right for you. The consultation is the best time to ask questions you might have and have the chance to discuss your concerns. Drs. Gingrass and Haws will review your medical history to examine any potential complications or health concerns. You’ll also decide on specific surgical techniques and your desired outcome.

Your Surgery

Labiaplasty is an outpatient procedure where you go home the same day of the operation. Make sure you have someone to drive you home and manage the first few days after surgery. We will give you detailed recovery instructions to follow to ensure proper healing. These include setting up a recovery area, filling prescriptions, and ensure child or pet care is arranged.

Your Recovery

It’s normal to experience slight discomfort after your surgery. Still, your surgeon will make sure you have the necessary medication to manage any pain. You can use ice packs to control swelling. Any discomfort is worst during the first few days but will subside in time. Some swelling is expected during recovery, with a bit of discomfort when you urinate. Using warm water on the incision site can ease any pain and reduce irritation. You should avoid sex for about six weeks during your recovery, or wait until your surgeon says it’s okay.

When Will You See Results?

Every woman heals differently, and your body needs time to recover from the operation. Most patients see their results over the weeks and months following surgery, as swelling decreases and scars diminish.
